Chateau de Mareuil
2015The Chateau of Mareuil (24) is a ruin but open to the public during extensive restauration.

Fortified churches
2015Many or the churches in the Lot were fortified against attacks from bandits during the 100 years war. This church is at Sergeac.

2015We came across this beautiful outbuilding in the village of Rudelle.

The well
2015Looking over the wall into the chateau garden at Sergeac SW France you find this lovely ancient well still in use.

Trojan les Bains
2015Oyster cabins are repaired when they nearly fall down,which gives them the special beauty that comes from originality.Old cans of paint colour them in a rainbow of missmatch.

Alimentation Generale
2014This little shop is hidden in the ancient quarter of Narbonne in the South of France.It is owned by an old man who objects to tourists taking photos,and chases them away,including us.

Cafe L' Hommeau
2014I found this cafe in the old centre of Poitiers. It has obviously been closed for a very long time and the dust lies thickly on the tables and chairs which are just as they were abandoned.Sadly the trend to move commerce to the outskirts of the town has eaten a hole into the community and left a legacy of closed shops and restaurants.

Oyster farming museum
2014Oyster cabins on Isle d'Oleron are now abandoned.They were painted in loveiy bright colours,but the paint is now peeling off. Pink hollyhocks ( rose tremiere) grow everywhere on the island.

Saissac
2014The ancient 13c chateau at Saissac near Carcassone painted as the sun was going down.

Work in progress
2014When the idea of buying a property in SW France became popular in the Netherlands and the UK, people bought ruined houses very cheaply, thinking they would restore them,but ignorant of the costs of materials for such a project they simply ran out of money and enthusiasm.

Chateau Cabrerets
2013Chateau de Diable at Cabrerets was a defensive position for the village against pirates using the river Lot .Built in the tenth century.

Abandoned oyster cabins
2014On the mudflats facing the Atlantic ocean are these decaying oyster cabins.Their paint is peeling and they are patched with anything the oysterfishermen can lay their hands on. Isle d'Oleron . France.

2014Built as a bastide 800 years ago, Monpazier Dordogne.is well worth a visit.

2013Tours de Merle. Ruined chateau deep in chestnut woods in Correze SW France. A feudal fortress,it was fought over during the 100 years war and then abandoned because of its inaccessibility.

2013The Tours de Merle in the Correze (France) ,was a feudal fortress from the 12 to 14 centuries .It was taken by the English during the 100 years war.The fortress was abandoned by those who preferred to live in more accessible places.On rainy days a thick cloud mist descends on the towers.
